Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) Brief History
In the history of the Indonesian Midwives states that dated June 24, 1951 regarded as the anniversary of IBI. IBI Inaugural Date of Birth based on the results of the First Midwives Conference held in Jakarta June 24, 1951, which is an initiative of the Senior Midwives domiciled in Jakarta.
The conference's first midwife has Succeeded in laying a solid foundation as well as the right direction forThe next midwife process, namely to establish an organizationProfession named Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) , with the shape of unity,National, with foundation of Pancasila and the Constitution of 1945.At the conference IBI also formulated objectives, as followed:
a.Promote unity and sisterhood among fellow midwifeas well as women in general, in order to strengthen national unity.
b.Fostering knowledge and skills of members in the profession of midwifery, especially in theMother and Child Healthcare (MCH) and family welfare.
c.Assist the government in national development, especially in improving community health status.
d.Improve the dignity and position of midwives in the community.
With the foundation and direction, from year to year IBI continued to evolve with The results of that struggle has been more pronounced and can be felt eitherby society and government itself.
The figures are listed as the initiator of the conference is: Mrs Selo Soemardjan, Mrs. Fatimah, Ibu Sri Mulyani, Mrs Salikun, Mrs Sukaesih, Mrs. Ipah and Mrs. S.Margua. IBI hereinafter proclaimed as the only official organization for theIndonesia midwives. The most important outcomes of the first conference of midwives throughout theIndonesia in 1951 is:
a.Agreed Indonesian Midwives Association formed organization,as the only organization which is the place of unity & unity of the Indonesian Midwives.
b.Executive Board of the IBI based in Jakarta.
c.In areas set up branches and sub Branches. As such organizations/associations thatLocal nature that existed before the conference itself and further confound allMidwives who are in the areas to be members of the branches and Sub Branches of the IBI.
The IBI Conference set Board of Members by the order as follows:
1st President: Ms Fatimah Muin
2nd President: Ms Sukarno
1st Writer: Ms Selo Soemardjan
2nd Writer: Ms Rupingatun
Treasurer: Ms Salikun
Three years after the conference, precisely at October 15, 1954, IBI is recognized as a legitimate organization with legal status and are listed in the State Institution number: JA5/927 (Department of the Internal Affairs), and in 1956 IBI accepted as a member of the ICM (International Confederation of Midwives). Until now IBI retain this membership. Participation in ICM activities conducted in various countries either Meetings, workshops, regional meetings and congresses of the world with, among others, present the experiences and activities of IBI. IBI and all its members Consisted of women have joined Indonesian Women's Congress (KOWANI) in the year 1951 until now IBI remains active support for KOWANI programs within the organization. as well as other Women Indonesian organization. Also in accordance with the RI Act No.8 of 1985, IBI organizations is listed as one of the Society of Social Institutions in Indonesiawith (#133). IBI Also active and support in National Status of Women in Indonesia (KNKWI) also known as National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) .
Pada kongres IBI yang kedelapan yang berlangsung di Bandung pada tahun 1982, terjadi perubahan nama Pengurus Besar IBI diganti menjadi Pengurus Pusat IBI, karena IBI telah memiliki 249 cabang yang tersebar di seluruh propinsi di Indonesia. Selain itu kongres juga mengukuhkan anggora pengurus Yayasan Buah Delima yang didirikan pada tanggal 27 Juli 1982. Yayasan ini bertujuan meningkatkan kesejahteraan anggota IBI, melalui pelaksanaan berbagai kegiatan.
Pada tahun 1985, untuk pertama kalinya IBI melangsungkan Kongres di luar pulau Jawa, yaitu di Kota Medan (Sumatera Utara) dan dalam kongres ini juga didahului dengan pertemuan ICM Regional Meeting Western Pacific yang dihadiri oleh anggota ICM dari Jepang, Australia, New Zealand, Philiphina, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam dan Indonesia. Bulan September 2000 dilaksanakan ICM Asia Pacific Regional Meeting di Denpasar Bali. Pada tahun 1986 IBI secara organisatoris mendukung pelaksanaan pelayanan Keluarga Berencana oleh Bidan Praktek Swasta melalui BKKBN.
Gerak dan langkah Ikatan Bidan Indonesia di semua tingkatan dapat dikatakan semakin maju dan berkembang dengan baik. Sampai dengan tahun 1998 IBI telah memiliki 27 Pengurus Daerah, 318 Cabang IBI (di tingkat Kabupaten/Kodya) dan 1.243 Ranting IBI (di tingkat Kecamatan) dengan jumlah anggota sebanyak 66.547 orang. Jumlah anggota ini meningkat dengan pesat setelah dilaksanakannya kebijakan pemerintah tentang Crash Program Pendidikan Bidan dalam kurun waktu medio Pelita IV s/d medio Pelita VI 1989 s/d 1997.
